Former Foreign Minister Bustillo returned as an advisor to the Foreign Ministry

After 8 months of leave, former Foreign Minister Fernando Bustillo returned as an advisor starting this Monday to the General Directorate of Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Let us remember that in the context of the scandal over the delivery of the passport to the dangerous Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset, the former foreign minister Bustillo had resigned from his position in November 2023 after former Undersecretary Carolina Ache presented audio recordings to the Prosecutor’s Office in which he told her not to hand over to the authorities a chat between her and the former Undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Guillermo Maciel, referring to the dangerousness of Sebastián Marset.

This occurred in the context of the administrative investigation into the delivery of Marset’s passport. Bustillo had also suggested to Ache that he should lose his cell phone.

Bustillo is a career civil servant in the ministry.
