Forlán returns to football at the age of 42!

Former Uruguayan international player Diego Forlanformer player among other teams of Atletico Madrid or Villarreal in our country, who in August 2019 announced his retirement from professional activity, will take down his boots to compete in the traditional University Sports League (LUD) of Uruguay.

The athlete will be part of the category for over 40 years of the Old Boys & Old Girls Club, an institution with more than 100 years of history.

“Hello, Diego! Welcome @DiegoForlan7 again to the University Sports League. You are in your house”, reads a publication in the account of Twitter of the LUD.

Founded in 1914, this competition’s mission is “to contribute to the education of university students towards life and society through amateur sports competition”.

Interviewed by the local station Sports 890‘Cachavacha’ assured: “The idea is to have fun and share with friends. I haven’t played football since my farewell match”.

That meeting to which he referred was played at the Centenario stadium in Montevideo on December 29, 2019 and ended with a 6-6 draw between the friends of Forlan and the Uruguayan team.

After his retirement, Forlán began his coaching career and took charge of the Penarol and of Athens S.A.D.club from which he left in September 2021.
