The debate on the motion of censure against Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva took place for almost six hours in the plenary session of the House of Representatives, which was summoned by congressmen of the Democratic Center and Radical Change for the nine absences of the official to debates of political control in the Second Commission of the corporation, to answer for controversial diplomatic appointments.

“Armando Benedetti, León Fredy Muñón and Camilo Romero, were appointed with the fulfillment of each and every one of the academic and work requirements. The three demonstrated that they had no criminal, prosecutorial, or disciplinary records with certifications that are authentic public documents,” said the foreign minister.
Regarding the investigations that are underway against several of them, the official specified that “I cannot be the judge because they have not been sentenced and there are constitutional principles that must be preserved, the presumption of innocence cannot be disregarded because two or three disagree with some names”.
Also referred to the appointments of the ambassador and the chancellor in Mexico, that have been questioned by public opinion. In this sense, he indicated that in the case of Moises Ninco Daza “he was recommended by the majority of the Commission of Merits” And regarding Andrés Hernández, he said that although the Public Function indicated that he did not have enough experience, with his title as a social communicator he can hold the position.
Leyva said that the diplomatic career has been strengthened. Nevertheless, “miracles are not fulfilled in seven months of government. Likewise, this administration is above what the law stipulates, which is 20%, so it is “satisfied” with the work done so far.”

In the midst of the heated debate, the result of which will be known next week, a group of protesters entered the plenary session with images of murdered policemen and soldiers, demanding guarantees for the Public Force and calling for freedom and order.

Citizens from the department of Arauca, managed to enter the Capitol accredited by the representative of the Democratic Center, José Jaime Ucátegui, against whom disciplinary actions could be taken for sponsoring this event with few precedents and which was rejected by legislators, endangering the safety of those on the premises.
