Project with financing from the European Union will favor territories of Camagüey

Four Camagüey municipalities will benefit from an environmental project financed by the European Union (EU) and that executes the French Development Agency (AFD). The initiative that was presented this Wednesday is called PROLAIF.

The project is concerned with environmental, social, renewable energy and food issues, based on sustainable practices according to reports Latin Press (PL). In addition to the city of Camagüey, it affects the towns of Guáimaro, Jimaguayú and Sibanicú.

The financing donated by the EU is 6.2 million euros, to which 1.3 million are added for technical assistance of the Center for International Cooperation in Agricultural Research for Development (Cirad), points out this source.

In general terms, it will favor science and innovation towards the sustainability of the agri-food sector, in harmony with the environment through agroecology, agro-silvopastoral knowledge and technological improvements in agribusiness, the source points out.

In addition, it seeks to reduce energy consumption, limit contamination, protect the genetic progress of herds, as well as help the local innovation system.

The name of this project comes from the present of the EU, Latin American Investment Facility (LAIF) and is coordinated by the Cuban office of the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the Ministry of Agriculture, PL specifies.
