The entity noted that the “situation can be prolonged” and recommended that the authorities of the affected regions prepare “evacuation plans”, routes “signposted and in good condition” and “evaluate access restrictions to some areas.”

Nevado del Ruiz is one of the 25 active and monitored volcanoes that exist in Colombia.
