The former senator and former candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Pedro Bordaberry, opined this Sunday in his weekly column in the newspaper El País, that the Colorados should not vote for the social security reform because “the agreements are to be fulfilled” and ” for not acting with the ethic of responsibility that is the DNA of the party”.
«You should not do it in the first place because the agreements are to be fulfilled. It is notorious that an agreement had been reached in the Senate between all the parties. It does not seem sensible that it is not fulfilled in Deputies », he pointed out.
Bordaberry referred to this unfulfilled agreement after breaking down the round trip that took place in recent weeks between the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, and the leader of Cabildo Abierto, Guido Manini Ríos, which led to the acceptance of two modifications to the original project (Cabildo condition to vote the project).
The second reason that Bordaberry gave for the Colorados not to vote for the pension reform points directly to the fundamentals of the party: “The most important thing: accepting these changes means not acting in accordance with the ethic of responsibility that is the DNA of the Party.” wrote.

For Bordaberry, Luis Lacalle Pou and those who support the reform “have done the right thing” by proposing a pension reform “that solves a problem that the country will have after this period of government ends.”
