Foot of force sent to Buenaventura will not be withdrawn in the remainder of the semester: Ministry of Defense

The 1,040 uniformed Police and National Navy personnel who had been sent to BuenaventuraValle, from 2021, to recover public order they will remain until the end of the semester announced the National Government.

Defense Minister Diego Molano, during the delivery of security equipment such as motorcycles to the port Police, explained that 600 of these soldiers belong to the Buenaventura base and 440 were extraordinarily assigned to accompany the city’s recovery process.

He added that thanks to said increase in the Public Force, 1,025 criminals investigated for different crimes have been capturedyes

Among those detained, 440 of them belong to the criminal gang La Local and were the ones they had been generating fear and intimidation among the community.

“In addition to the arrests and prosecutions Police are required to arrest the leaders of these illegal groups, who are the ones who criminally command the assassination of social leaders and the forced displacement of peasants,” he said.

One of the most wanted in Buenaventura and that had been disturbing the tranquility of the inhabitants of the communes, already fCarlos Fernando Murillo alias ‘Fercho’ was captured in commune 6, and Oscar Eduardo García, known by the alias ‘Butcher’ who was the terror of communes 8 and 7 and dedicated himself to extorting and murdering those who did not pay him the extortions.

The clashes that some criminal gangs had been holding in Buenaventura during 2021, were generating insecurity in the port and caused some inhabitants to abandon their territories and move to the capital, Valle, to protect their lives and seek new opportunities.
