The Medellin Flower Fair is getting ready to enter its final stretch, after two weeks of celebrations and tributes to the Antioquian spirit, in which both locals and tourists have enjoyed a very varied agenda, which even had a space for the ‘furry ones’, with the traditional pet parade.
This year, the popularly known as ‘Dog and Pet Walk’ reached its 25th edition and was carried out with total tranquility and amidst a massive attendance of citizens who took advantage of the moment. to go out for a walk with his faithful companions and take advantage of the fact that the weather was kind to everyone.
According to the organizers, the event was made possible thanks to the support of private companies and the spirit of love and joy that was felt throughout the entire route, which also included the participation of adopted dogs and cats, as well as the pets of members of the public forces, who were present at different points of the walk.

According to the Mayor’s Office of Medellin, among the thousands of attendees “Viviana González was there. She has four cats and three dogs, all rescued, and she maintains that pets are part of our family.” Why this love for animals? “I have an 18-year-old daughter who is a veterinarian. She instilled in us the love for animals,” said this woman.
The tour began at 8:00 am in the Estadio metro station square last Sunday – August 4 – and lasted until noon. During this time, hundreds of dogs and some cats filled blocks and blocks of different sectors of the city with love and joy.

According to its organizers, the Walk was started more than two decades ago, thanks to a family and a handful of friends and workers from Tierragro, who, as enthusiastic pioneers, attended the first edition with their own dogs and even borrowed dogs. Year after year the group grew until it became what it is today: a great walk that has a Guinness Records and recognition from the city.
“We strive to ensure that pets are safe outside the home and that is why we have set up several veterinary medical care points to provide an immediate response to any eventuality, with several hydration points, swimming pools and water tanks to wet the roads and prevent burns from the pavement or possible heat strokes,” said Tierragro.
At this event, attendees can enjoy raffles, gift givingcontests and the presence of a professional veterinary team that helps with the examination of animals, delivery of vitamins, deworming and consultations with specialists, in development of a strategy already known in the department called Brigapets (health brigades for pets), completely free of charge.

“The National Police, ESMAD, the National Army, Medellín Transit, various companies, Civil Defense and other entities of the Municipal Administration were present and gave their support to guarantee the well-being and safety of those attending with their pets,” highlighted the Mayor’s Office of Medellín.
In order to meet the social goal for which the walk was also conceived and to improve the quality of life of four-legged beings, many of them strays, this year the traditional dog walk raised concentrated funds, which will be distributed among 15 foundations and shelters with animals in their care, ready to be handed over to families willing to love them for life.
