José Rainha Júnior and Luciano de Lima, leaders of the National Fight Front Campo e Cidade (FLN), were arrested by the Civil Police this Saturday afternoon (5), in Mirante do Paranapanema (SP), in the Presidente Prudente region. According to the police, they are accused of extorting rural property owners.
“The steps were due to preventive arrest warrants, requested and authorized by the Justice, from leaders of the land invasion movement who demanded financial advantages from at least six victims”, informed, in a note, the Secretariat of Public Security of São Paulo. Paul (SSP-SP).
The folder pointed out that the arrests are unrelated to the land occupations carried out by the FLN during carnival in the region. At the time, nine rural properties were occupied by the movement, according to the police.
On social media, the Secretary of Public Security of the State, Guilherme Derrite, congratulated the police action. “José Rainha Júnior and Luciano de Lima, leaders of the FNL, were arrested by our Civil Police. I congratulate the police officers involved in this mission, who also have the support of the Military Police to guarantee security in our state”, says the publication.
In a note, the FLN said that the arrests are political and took place in retaliation for the day of occupations carried out during the carnival. “This political arrest has a clear relationship with the occupation day of the Red Carnival, being an act of retaliation against the fighters of the landless people”.
The FLN also pointed out that the movement has denounced the usurpation of public lands, in the Pontal do Paranapanema region, by agribusiness, and that the leaders have the right to defend themselves against the accusations in freedom.
“We denounce the invasion of public lands by agribusiness in Pontal do Paranapanema. These are public lands that the agro defends as theirs with a bullet, expelling, injuring and killing, if necessary, the workers who dare to claim them”, denounces the FLN.
