Firefighters stopped the advance of the fire in a shopping mall in Punta del Este

Firefighters managed to contain the fire that started this Saturday in the bakery of the Tienda Iglesa supermarket, which is located in the Punta del Este shopping mall. Around 4:00 p.m., the troops prevented the flames from spreading through the shopping center, Firefighters said in a statement.

The fire started in the supermarket bakery during the early morning, at the beginning of the day of preparation of the products in that sector.

There were no injured people or significant damage to the structure, according to a statement published by the supermarket chain. The flames affected some underground vehicles, in addition to the fact that there was a wall that collapsed.

About half of the morning the fire was already controlled, but then it was reactivated. “Work continues on cooling areas where a lot of temperature was concentrated, and work is being done on ventilation to channel the smoke to the outside,” said a statement from the Fire Department, in the afternoon.

The fire caused both the store and the mall to announce that they will remain closed this Saturday, mainly due to the amount of smoke generated by the fire, and that they aim to reopen normally for Sunday.

Firefighters from San Carlos, Aiguá and Santa Teresa were sent to the scene to collaborate with the city’s firefighters.
