He indicated that the ambassador Dominican in Canada, Mrs. Michel Cohen has acted as a liaison to bring to Dominican soil the equipment that will allow the tracing of a vertical conduit that will facilitate the extraction of Dominican Gregory Alexander Méndez Torres, 28, and Carlos Yépez Ospina, 37.

He said that by order of President Abinader “We wanted to place here, on land, the technological resources that are needed to guarantee the extraction of the miners” and cited that the Metro tunneling machine is already in the possession of the Cormidom company and advanced the arrival of the equipment from Canada no later than Sunday night.

“For President Luis Abinader, for the Ministry of Energy and Mines and for the General Directorate of Mining the reference de every action is the life of those people. He said that the Dominican government, in collaboration with Cormidom, wants to have all the safest options on the ground to guarantee the success of the rescue mission for the two men.

So far, the operation is being carried out on two fronts: one is removing debris from the site of the collapse, the other is opening a tunnel and placing arches of steel to reach zone 215 where the collapse occurred and the third option would be to use the Metro’s tunnel boring machine, which, as explained by the president of the company, Paul Marinkahas not been used yet.

The fourth way, as explained Mr. Marinka at a press conference this Saturday, it would be the realization of a vertical tunnel with the team that will arrive from Canada.

Almonte spoke at the end of a press conference with television media of the president of CORMIDONPaul Marinko, which took place in the administrative facilities of the mine.
