“The great powers need to understand that we do not want to be anyone’s enemy, we are not interested (…) a new Cold War involving the United States, China or Russia, dragging the entire planet into a conflict that can put at risk the very survival of the humanity,” the leftist former president told Mexican lawmakers.

Lula, a favorite for the October presidential election in Brazil but who has not yet launched his candidacy, alluded to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which, he said, must be resolved through negotiation, leaving weapons aside.

“It is inadmissible for a country to feel that it has the right to install military bases around another country, it is inadmissible for one country to react by invading another. Wars lead to nothing, they lead to nothing more than death, destruction, misery and hunger”, she stressed.

He also regretted that in the 21st century there are leaders who continue to behave like “our prehistoric ancestors”, for whom “the only law in force is that of the strongest”.

Lula’s visit to the Chamber of Deputies, at the invitation of the ruling caucus, was altered by a 5.7 Richter magnitude earthquake, with its epicenter in Veracruz (east) and which activated the seismic alert that warns up to a minute anticipate the occurrence of an earthquake.

In images broadcast on social networks, Lula is seen wearing a mask, meeting with his hosts outside the Chamber of Deputies during the eviction.

On Wednesday, in another meeting with pro-government legislators, the Brazilian politician called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to dedicate “one more hour, one more day, one more month, one more year” to negotiations with Ukraine,

Lula met on Wednesday with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who described the meeting as “fraternal.”

“We are united by the brotherhood of our peoples and the fight for equality and justice,” López Obrador wrote on his Twitter account.

Lula also met with the leaders of the Mexican Senate, to whom he said that “he is convinced” that he should once again be a candidate for the presidency of Brazil.

According to the polls, the leader of the Workers’ Party could defeat the current president, the right-wing Jair Bolsonaro.
