Santiago. A fire affects pine plantations in a section of the community of Los Montones, in the municipality of San José de las Matas (Sajoma).
The environmental authorities have not yet established the causes of the fire that devours a significant number of pine trees in areas of Aguas Calientes, although some attribute it to acts of vandalism. According to information offered by technicians from the Ministry of the Environment, the fire affected six points in the Piedra Partida section.
Because the fire was recorded at sunset on Monday, the firefighters decided to resume work on Tuesday morning. Environmentalists and owners of the land planted with pine trees affected by the incident fear that it could continue to spread.
Due to the lack of rain, the environmental authorities have urged residents in mountainous areas, where there are tree reserves, not to burn garbage so that there are no fires that they cannot control.
