The municipalities of Recife and Rio de Janeiro, in addition to the state of Goiás, will receive international funding of US$ 749.24 million to implement fiscal adjustment programs. The credit operations were approved by the External Financing Commission (Cofiex) of the Ministry of Economy.
The money aims to train managers to save expenses, increase revenues and make the administration of public resources more efficient.
The government of Goiás will borrow US$510 million from the World Bank to implement the fiscal, economic and environmental sustainability program. On December 24th, the state adhered to the Tax Recovery Regime (RRF), two years after declaring calamity in public accounts.
According to the Ministry of Economy, the Bird loan takes place under the program. The RRF provides for the suspension of payment of debts of states with financial difficulties in exchange for a fiscal adjustment program.
The city of Rio de Janeiro will receive US$ 135.24 million, also from the World Bank, intended to implement actions aimed at fiscal balance and economic recovery of the municipal administration. The capital of Pernambuco was authorized to borrow US$ 104 million from the Inter-American Development Bank for the same purpose.
