After the leaked photos of five political prisoners who are under house arrest, the Sé Humano platform assures that these images “do not guarantee” that the administration of Daniel Ortega is providing them with specialized medical care and humane treatment.

The hostages of the dictatorship appear together with officers from the Police Operations Directorate (DOEP), who, according to sources on condition of anonymity, remain in permanent custody 24 hours a day and must be photographed next to the opponents every time they make a shift change.
The Sé Humano team reiterated that they join “each of the demands made by the relatives of political prisoners in Nicaraguafor this reason we share this open letter to Daniel Ortega where we stand in solidarity with all political prisoners.
The letter addressed to the illegitimate president of Nicaragua lays out a list of minimum actions that Ortega-Murillo, the Judiciary and the Penitentiary System “must comply with in order to guarantee treatment compatible with human dignity of imprisoned persons”, contained in the Nelson Mandela Rules.
Among the “requests” the regime is asked for the immediate and unrestricted release of all political prisoners, respect for weekly visits in conditions of privacy, the establishment of communication mechanisms between prisoners of conscience and their daughters and sons under age and, in the cases of the elderly, that their form of preventive detention be changed to house arrest.
Also that families be authorized to provide food to their prisoners, the immediate cessation of isolation and interrogations without the presence of their lawyers, authorization for the delivery of blankets and warm clothing to combat the cold they feel every night; that the entry of reading material of their choice such as the Bible is authorized and they can receive correspondence and photos of their loved ones.
Nicaraguan justice has sentenced more than 30 political prisoners who were captured between May and November 2021, prior to the “electoral farce” of Daniel Ortega. The detainees in that raid correspond to the most visible faces of the Nicaraguan opposition.
