FIFA urges Mexico to act quickly

FIFA has issued a statement this Sunday in which it declares itself “dismayed by the tragic incident” that occurred at the La Corregidora stadium in the city of Querétaro during the Querétaro-Atlas match and “encourages local authorities to do justice quickly in relation to with those responsible individuals.

FIFA says that “it is dismayed by the tragic incident that occurred in the La Corregidora stadium in the city of Querétaro during the match between Querétaro and Atlas” and adds that “the acts of violence in the La Corregidora stadium are unacceptable and intolerable.”

He also points out that “once again, FIFA wishes to underline that violence must have no place in football and we will continue to work with all parties involved to eradicate it from our sport.”

The Querétaro-Atlas match, corresponding to the ninth day of the Clausura of Mexican soccer, was suspended this Saturday as a result of acts of violence that ended with the invasion of the field by fans.

The fight between fans of both teams, which began in the stands, grew and ended up on the field, an uncivil show that caused the players to take refuge in the locker room and the referee to end the match.

Hours later, the Coordination of Civil Protection of the State of Querétaro indicated in a first report that the confrontation had left at least 22 people injured.

This Sunday the Governor of the state updated the information and indicated that 26 people were hospitalized, 24 men and two women. He explained that three have already been discharged, 10 are out of danger, another 10 less serious, while the remaining three are serious.
