MADRID, Spain.- The Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Power Plant, from Felton, left the National Electric System (SEN) to carry out maintenance work, with the aim of “guaranteeing stability in electricity generation” by the end of the year, according to what they said the official media.
According to the general director of Felton, Euclides Rodríguez Mejías, “this action is carried out in a planned manner and in prior coordination with the National Load Office, after more than forty days of stable generation, with an average power of more than 220 MW ”.
Rodríguez Mejías, cited by the Cuban News Agency (ACN)indicated that the exit of the block is motivated by the accumulation of technological problems, among which two unavailable burners stand out, as well as cracks in the left side wall of the boiler and in a reheating line.
The owner also specified that the works being carried out are considered “minor” and “respond to the strategy of the country’s leadership to keep the generation units in optimal condition.”
These works include the disassembly of the steam pipes and aggregates of the block two boiler; as well as maintenance of the high-medium pressure rotor of the turbine and the rest of the components of unit two.
The plant is expected to rejoin the SEN this Friday “reliably taxing its 250 MW again.”
This week the Cuban authorities, when referring to the energy crisis that has affected the inhabitants of the Island during 2022, they mentioned among its main causes the US embargo, Hurricane Ian and the “vaccines” to combat COVID-19.
The development of the latter, according to the regime, “prevented guaranteeing the necessary financing for the maintenance of the SEN and the acquisition of fuels for generation, as they are highly expensive in the international market.”
