The Federation of Gold Mining Cooperatives of the North of La Paz (Fecoman) affirmed this Thursday that at least 25 cooperatives in its sector are authorized to exploit gold in the Madidi natural park, located in the Abel Iturralde and Franz Tamayo provinces. They affirm that there is another quantity registered in the Ministry of Mining, waiting for the procedures to be approved.

“Right now we have more than 25 cooperatives with established documents and the rest of the cooperatives are in the process of processing, perhaps with new contracts. We are at the stage in which we request that our authorities be able to attend to these paperwork documents as soon as possible, ”replied the president of Fecoman, Vicente Choque, when asked how many members work in Madidi.

He even sued the Ministry of Mining, the Mining Administrative Jurisdictional Authority (AJAM) and the Sernap, to speed up the procedures so that illegal mining does not occur as it happens in the Madre de Dios, border with Peru and Brazil.

“We ask that the documents be streamlined so that illegal mining does not take place, because this will only harm us and will lead us to informality and smuggling, as is the case in Madre de Dios, where foreigners such as Peruvians, Brazilians and Colombians take advantage of the resources , something that can be used by Bolivians”, he said.

He even said that the residents of Azariama, some 150 inhabitants located around the banks of the Tuichi River, can carry out gold mining with responsible work, because they will be advised by professionals, since the resources will go to the direct benefit of the population that needs education. and health.

He also warned that the local residents will not allow the Azariama Colorada cooperative to enter, because, according to them, they work with people outside their territory.
