During the celebration within the framework of the foundation of the 301 years of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), the president of the Federation of University Centers (FCU) reiterated the need for the house of studies to recover its autonomy
Within the framework of the 301st anniversary of the founding of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), the president of the Federation of University Centers (FCU) of the UCV Jesus Mendoza Morales, expressed the urgency that the house of studies has to be renovated, as well as the need to recover its autonomy. He also reiterated the demand for a fair budget that allows all the demands of teachers and students to be met.
When asked by the media about the reality of the university, The student leader said that the deep budgetary crisis persists, which is why student dropouts are currently around 40% of enrollment.
In this sense, he regretted that close to 20% of the teaching staff have been forced to leave the teaching activity. “Unfortunately, these are not the numbers with which we want to commemorate the opening of the UCV. It is really essential that in the coming years we have the autonomous and renewed university that we so badly need today”, he affirmed.
On the other hand, He highlighted the importance of the Executive respecting and guaranteeing the budget “that the university deserves so that our professors do not continue coming to the classrooms with a salary that is not enough for them at all”said the student leader.
In relation to the work carried out by the Presidential Commission that carries out the recovery work of this house of studies, the spokesman announced that although they have attended a significant number of faculties, very important schools such as dentistry and pharmacy are still missing. He also mentioned the pending repair in the Aula Magna, and the roof collapsed in one of the steps two years ago.
