Failed operation in Ercilla in 2021: murder suspect of PDI official arrested

Personnel from the Investigative Police (PDI) arrested the suspect for shooting at the PDI inspector early Wednesday morning Luis Morales Balcázar, in the midst of a massive operation by the institution carried out in January 2021 in Ercilla, La Araucanía region. The shot caused the death of Morales.

The detainee, known as “El Chino”, was apprehended at 5:00 am in the Chacaico community of Ercilla. The subject slept in a home in the area, slogan Radio Bio Bio.

Let us remember that the massive operation was carried out on January 7, 2021, an instance in which more than 800 PDI personnel participated. The staff moved to Temucuicui with the aim of seizing nearly 4,000 marijuana plants.

However, in the middle of the operation, personnel from the institution were ambushed, ending with the death of Inspector Morales. In addition, in the operation they only managed to investigate about a thousand plants.
