Face to face

According to the RAE, a jester “is a comic character in charge of entertaining kings and courtiers with jokes and gestures.” In those efforts and with a safety helmet that, comically, barely covered his head, the BTV cameras showed the Minister of OO.PP, Services and Housing, Édgar Montaño, during the recent delivery of a highway project between Viacha and El Alto , in an act headed by the head of state.

While he used the word and tried to be funny, Montaño smiled slyly. But he failed to amuse the audience of him. He, too, did not stop playing the role that works best for him: Cuje principal of the Government against the Santa Cruz governor. He also showered flowers for having achieved, after four days – quite a feat for him – the suspension of a blockade that cut off circulation between Santa Cruz and Beni due to a demand from organizations related to the ruling party and that caused heavy losses to sectors productive in the region.

Instead of rehearsing buffoonery, Minister Montaño should deal with serious and important matters such as promoting or accompanying, from his office, the investigations into the recent suspicious air movements at the La Cruceña and El Trompillo airfields, with probable links to drug trafficking . Or the impunity that surrounds the LaMia tragedy that almost six years ago cost the lives of 71 people, when a plane from that line left Viru Viru for Colombia, on a fateful flight that should never have been authorized at a Bolivian airport.
