Extradition: Ricardo Martinelli Linares will face a hearing next Monday, November 8

“Third Criminal Sentencing Court sets the hearing for next Monday, November 8, at 10 in the morning to publicize the reasons for the extradition of Ricardo Alberto Martinelli Linares,” the Guatemalan journalist Sergio Osegueda reported this Friday.

“Personnel from the United States Embassy arrived at the prison where Luis Enrique Martinelli is to take the photograph and thus process the passport to proceed to the transfer to New York. There is still no date set for delivery,” he added.

The Panamanians Luis Enrique and Ricardo Alberto Martinelli Linares, detained since July 6, 2020, will be extradited to the United States once the pending procedures are exhausted.

The Supreme Court of Justice authorized the extradition of Luis Enrique and transferred the file to the Foreign Ministry, which in turn forwarded it to the United States Embassy.

The extradition process of Ricardo Alberto is paralyzed by appeals filed by the defense. The case is heard in a different court.

The brothers arrived in Guatemala on their father’s plane to take over as alternate deputies of the Central American Parliament, but they had not been sworn in. They were detained and the aircraft was provisionally impounded.

Both are being held in a prison installed on a military base in the north of the capital.

The sons of Martinelli (2009-2014) are required by the US justice to answer for money laundering charges related to the case of bribery payments in exchange for public works made by the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.
