Exiles and activists demand proof of life of José Daniel Ferrer

MADRID, Spain.- The Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) and the exile organization Cuban Democratic Directorate (DDC) demanded from the regime on the island a life certificate for the opposition and political prisoner José Daniel Ferrer, after almost 50 days without let them hear from you.

“After 47 days without knowing anything about him, not even his voice, opposition activists in Baracoa demand that the Havana regime give José Daniel Ferrer life,” UNPACU members asked through a video shared this Monday by the Cuban Democratic Directorate.

Participating in the recording are opponents such as Yoel Acosta Gámez, Alexandra Gómez, Pascual Zúñiga Toirac, Óscar Leidy Blanco Lobaina and Alejandro Jiménez Blanco; who called for the “immediate release” of the UNPACU leader and “that his family be allowed to see him.”

Last week, the sister of José Daniel, Ana Belkis Ferrer García, when denouncing the disappearance of the opponent, stated: “The dictatorship of Raúl Castro and Miguel Díaz-Canel punishes and tortures him in a brutal and excessive manner with total impunity.”

Just as he recalled that for more than two months calls from the Mar Verde prison, Santiago de Cuba, where he has been since 2021, were suspended.

Between June and July, the opponent’s family experienced a similar situation, since the Cuban regime held him incommunicado for 38 days, without granting the faith of life demanded by his wife, Nelva Ismarays Ortega Tamayo.

José Daniel Ferrer was arrested on July 11, 2021 when he was about to join the popular demonstrations. They transferred him to a dungeon in the Versailles torture center, and in early August they sent him from there to the Mar Verde prison, where he has been since then and without a trial date.

During all this time, the prison authorities have kept him in a cell in inhuman, cruel and degrading conditions, isolated from the prison community and subjected to repudiation rallies, despite his delicate state of health.
