After visiting Paris, Rome and London, the exhibition Amazônia, by photographer Sebastião Salgado, installed in the capital of São Paulo, will be on display at Sesc Pompeia until July 10th. Conceived by curator Lélia Wanick Salgado, the show is the result of seven years of work by the artist in the Brazilian Amazon, and contains around 200 images.Exhibition of Sebastião Salgado is open until July 10 in SP

In addition to the photographs, the show features seven videos with testimonies from indigenous leaders about the importance of the Amazon and the problems currently faced for survival in the forest. “The exhibition aims to fuel the debate on the future of the Amazon rainforest. It is something that must be done with the participation of everyone on the planet, together with indigenous organizations”, highlights Sebastião Salgado.

According to the curator, the exhibition is a dive into the heart of the Amazon and an invitation to see, hear and reflect on the future of biodiversity and the need to protect indigenous peoples and the ecosystem. “By designing the Amazon, I wanted to create an environment in which the visitor felt inside the forest, integrated with its exuberant vegetation and with the daily lives of local populations”, highlights Lélia.

The exhibition also features spaces with photographic projections: forest landscapes set to music by the symphonic poem “Erosão – Origin of the Amazon River”, by the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, and portraits of indigenous populations, with a special composition by Rodolfo Stroeter.

After being presented in São Paulo, the exhibition goes to Rio de Janeiro (RJ), at the Museum of Tomorrow, from July 19, and will remain until January 29, 2023.

To access Sesc units in the state of São Paulo, all people over 5 years of age must present proof of vaccination against covid-19 and a photo document. Children aged 5 to 11 can show proof of only one dose of the vaccine, but those over 12 years old need to show two doses or a single dose of the immunizing agent. The exhibition is open, at Sesc Pompeia, from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 am to 9 pm; Sundays and holidays, from 10 am to 6 pm.
