Participating in the open parliament forums for the electrical reform, the head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, said that the Executive’s proposal closes the door to dirty business and opens it to a clean future and sustainable development for the country.
It’s false
that the proposal involves dirty energy, he pointed out before federal deputies of all parties in the Legislative Palace of San Lázaro.
He stressed that the constitutional reform initiative gives the nation energy sovereignty, planning in the transition towards renewable sources and towards a future with fewer greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, it ends abuse and looting and guarantees electricity for present and future generations.
The capital official criticized the legislative changes of 2013, because they fragmented the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), prevented the state company from participating in long-term energy auctions and led to the loss of planning capacity by the State.
A disorder was caused in the National Electric System that generates technical and economic problems, he explained in his capacity as a specialist in climate change issues.
In yesterday’s forum dedicated to the energy transition, Sheinbaum warned that sustainability in the sector cannot occur without the following four aspects: sovereignty, well-being, economic development and reduction of environmental impacts, including global climate change.
He also highlighted that renewable energy sources and their development do not require Certificates, but rather clear planning and integration of the National Electric System, based on an economic and technical definition, where the environment is a substantive element.
For her part, Nora Cabrera, from the Nuestro Futuro organization, considered that the way the Executive’s proposal is written, it increases greenhouse gas emissions and does not configure the way in which the energy transition will be carried out. She urged moving towards clean energies gradually and fairly.
PRI: it is required to pay to the competitiveness of the CFE
On the other hand, the PRI held a forum on the reform in Nuevo León, where the national leader of this political force, Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, stated that an initiative is required that protects the environment and, at the same time, contracts with companies to world scale.
A reform is needed that contributes to the modernization and competitiveness of the CFE, encourages investment in clean energy and brings electricity to those who need it most efficiently, he added.
