MIAMI, United States.- Well, former Bolivian President Evo Morales has been the last to react to the exclusion of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua from the Summit of the Americas, to be held next month in the United States, and he has done so to ensure that these “are the most democratic countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.”
Morales published a series of tweets this Sunday in which he criticized the position of the United States and suggested that Bolivia should leave the Organization of American States (OAS), in reaction because the totalitarian regimes in the region have not been invited to the conclave.
“Faced with the exclusion of the US from countries freed from its hegemony, how good it would be for Bolivia to withdraw from the OAS, ratifying our anti-imperialist position, the sovereignty and independence of the State, but also the identity, dignity and freedom of the Bolivian people,” The former president wrote on his Twitter account.
According to Morales, “the Summit of the Americas is an opportunity to reflect on the North American doctrine, which affirms that the poor cannot engage in politics, and the democratic revolution in Latin America that elects, today, presidents branded as terrorists, anti-capitalist, and anti-imperialists.” .
“The US confirms that countries that ‘do not respect democracy’ cannot participate in the Summit of the Americas and excludes Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, which have the peculiarity of being free, with the most advanced democracies in Latin America in the election of representatives of bases”, added the Bolivian, a strong ally of the dictatorships of Havana, Caracas and Managua.
“The United States has double standards: it talks about democracy and freedom, but it does not respect democratic countries that have freed themselves from the empire and its subjection,” he said. “Each country has its own culture, its own democratic experience and is free to choose its destiny, but the United States imposes a single model,” she said.
So far, Bolivian President Luis Arce, a member of the Movement for Socialism (MAS), Morales’ party, and Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president of Mexico, have threatened not to attend the meeting, which will be held in Los Angeles, California, between June 8 and 10, if their political allies are not invited.
Brian Nichols, US Undersecretary of State for the Western Hemisphere, assured in early May that the governments of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua will not be invited to the Summit of the Americas.
