Eugenio Derbez to Ana de Armas: “You deserve the Oscar”

CDMX, Mexico.- The popular Mexican actor, Eugenio Derbez revealed who is his favorite to win the Oscar this year. His choice is one of the actresses of the moment, the Cuban Ana de Armasfor her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in “Blonde.”

Through a post on Instagram, Eugenio shared that he had just seen the movie and praised the performance of the Cuban. He above all stressed the value of this interpretation for someone whose native language is not English.

“I just saw Blonde and I’m blown away. As a Mexican actor who didn’t learn English (until) he was 40 years old, (Ana) has done what I thought was impossible. I cannot believe that this Cuban actress was able to transform herself into one of the most famous American icons the world has ever known, with such humanity, grace and soulfulness. You can’t understand how hard it is until you try, not just to perform in a different language, but to embody a different culture.”

Eugenio Derbez, comedian, actor and producer, pointed out that Ana de Armas made many Latino artists or of any other origin see that they can achieve their goals if they work hard.

“Ana, thank you for showing me and the world that the only barriers we face are the ones we put on ourselves. You deserve the Oscar! I hope we can meet and work together soon!” she wrote.

Derbez was ahead of the official announcements of the nominees for the Academy Awards in 2023, where Ana de Armas is one of the favorites. What would make her the first Cuban actress to achieve it. Even without knowing the results of the Oscars, the achievements that the young woman has reached to date place her as the Cuban performer who has gone the furthest in the film industry.

De Armas was among the nominees for Best Dramatic Actress at the 80th edition of the Golden Globes delivered last week; And although she ultimately did not get it, she was one of the most recognized celebrities at the gala.
