The United States Embassy formally inaugurated today the work that a medical team from the USNS Comfort hospital ship will offer in the country, under the command of the head of the Southern Command, General Laura J. Richardson.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Naval Club for Officers of the Dominican Navy, was headed by General Richardson, the Minister Counselor of the United States Embassy, Alejandro Titoc, and the Minister of Public Health of the Dominican Republic, Daniel Rivera. .
Richardson thanked the effort made by President Luis Abinader to make the operation a success.

Likewise, he said that thanks to the disposition of President Abinader, the operation will impact an average of 7 thousand people, with a projection of 100 surgeries.
Meanwhile, Alejandro Titoc, Minister Counselor of the United States Embassy, declared that relations between his country and the Dominican Republic are currently stronger than ever.
The Hospital Comfort ship is offering free medical services to the population of all ages from the 28th of this month until December 5th.
American medical personnel from the ship, with the support of Dominican doctors, will be in the province of Azua, where they will mainly benefit the most vulnerable sectors.
Patients are previously evaluated by the medical team of the Comfort Ship and then they will be followed up through the Area and Provincial Health directorates.
The USNS Comfort, which has been in the country for the fourth time since Monday, is the largest military medical hospital ship in the world, created with the purpose of providing emergency aid in places where the United States Armed Forces are deployed in battlefield or other operations.
In times when there are no wars, it is used for immediate medical and surgical services in support of the United States Army in different countries of the world. Also, it is dedicated to providing humanitarian aid in the event of a disaster if the US government deems it necessary.
