Electoral Court notifies Martinelli about the process of lifting the criminal electoral jurisdiction

Staff of the Administrative Electoral Court of the Electoral Court (TE) is notifying, this Wednesday, the former President of the Republic, Ricardo Martinelli, in the office of the Realizing Goals (RM) party, of the process of removal of criminal electoral jurisdiction, at the request of the Third Criminal Case Liquidator Court.

According to TE sources, the notifiers would post the edict at the door of the RM headquarters, located in the Oceanía building, in Punta Pacifica.

Martinelli, founder of RM, enjoys criminal electoral jurisdiction since last January 28, as a result of the internal elections to choose the secretaries of Women and Youth of that party.

The exmandatario is the president of the collective and, therefore, has electoral jurisdiction.

Given this fact, Judge Baloisa Marquínez had to suspend the preliminary hearing for Martinelli, who is accused of allegedly committing the crime of money laundering through the acquisition of Editora Panamá América (Epasa), for which the company would have been used. New Business, which allegedly received contributions from funds given to companies to which the State assigned infrastructure contracts.

The judge asked the TE to lift Martinelli’s immunity on February 3.
