Legislators such as Juan Carlos Lizarzaburu (Popular Force), Alexander Cavero (Avanza País) and Alejandro Muñante (Popular Renovation) regretted that Gustavo Petro be the virtual president of Colombia, according to the preliminary results in that country.
With the information available to date, with 99.25% of the polling stations informed, Petro obtains 11,115,965 votes, equivalent to 50.47%, while his rival, Rodolfo Hernández, from the League of Anticorruption Governors, reached 10,391,504 votes (47.27%).
After this margin of difference between the two candidates was reported, the Peruvian legislators expressed their regret for this situation on their social networks.
“Today is a holiday for the people. Let him celebrate the first popular victory. May so many sufferings be cushioned in the joy that today floods the heart of the Homeland. This victory for God and for the People and their history. Today is the day of the streets and squares”, Petro wrote on his Twitter account.
It should be noted that Petro, an economist by profession and a former guerrilla, was the candidate who received the most votes in the first round of the elections in Colombia.
