The candidacy of Álvaro Paz de la Barra was unable to apply for the Mayor of Lima. This was arranged by Special Electoral Jury (JEE), which declared inadmissible the inscriptions of the candidates of the party Faith in Peru for the next regional and municipal elections by the political organization has been suspended until after October 2.
“After the consultation was made in the registry of political organizations of the National Election Juryyou have to the deadline for submitting applications for registration of candidacies, Faith in Peru is in the process of registration and would have acquired the legal status to participate in this process”, indicates the resolution of the JEE of Lima Oeste 2.
For his part, the still mayor of La Molina, Alvaro Paz de la Barrahas confirmed that will not participate in the Regional and Municipal Elections 2022 after the decision of the Special Electoral Jury.

“The final registration of Faith in Peru has been suspended until after the regional and municipal elections on October 2. That is to say, it is already legally a national political organization, but is unable to participate in these upcoming elections”, they stated in a statement.
Who is Álvaro Paz de la Barra, the mayor of La Molina?
Alvaro Paz de la Barra Freigeiro was born in Miraflores. He is the son of the lawyer Vladimir Paz de la Barra and the judge Fanny Freigeiro Moran. Study Law and political science at the University of San Martín de Porres, where he obtained his professional degree in 2008. He worked at the Paz de la Barra Law Firm. In 2018, he married Peruvian television presenter Sofía Franco.
The 38-year-old lawyer began his political career when he ran for mayor of La Molina with the game of People’s Action and managed to be elected for the period 2019-2022. Since February 2019, Paz de la Barra is president of the Association of Municipalities of Peru (AMPE).
In March 2021, the mayor and his wife had an episode of family violence, for which they both ended up in the police station in La Molina. By then, the aforementioned mayor had already separated from the lampa party. Likewise, they exhorted him to take a step aside from the presidency of the AMPE.
Earlier this year, The mayor of La Molina, through a statement, proposed to “temporarily” prohibit undocumented foreigners from providing delivery, taxi or mototaxi services in his district due to the increase in crime. However, this initiative caused discomfort, as the measure was branded as xenophobic and discriminatory.
Paz de la Barra responds
During the afternoon of this Thursday, the mayor of La Molina referred to the decision of JEE. In this regard, the mayor maintained that he is appealing to the recent measure.
“Through administrative the suspension is being appealed through the appeal before the plenary session of the JNE with the aim of requesting provisional registration until the plenary session of the JNE definitively confirms the seven blemishes that different groups of power presented against Fe in Peru in a malicious and dilatory manner,” reads the press release.

Along the same lines, he explained that Faith in Peru “It has been the national political organization with the most presentations of strikeouts against its registration throughout this century.”
Finally, the leader of the political organization expects the electoral body to schedule a date “where Alvaro Paz de la Barra will inform personally before the plenary session of the JNE”.

This Saturday, the mayor of La Molina and candidate for mayor of Lima, Alvaro Paz de la Barrareported that the National Election Jury He accepted the admission of his appeal to revoke the suspension of the registration of Faith in Peru, the party with which he is applying. In this sense, he indicated that he has requested the provisional affiliation of his political organization.
“Although it is true that our political party Faith in Peru is already registered with the electoral entity, we are requesting that the Registry of Political Organizations (ROP) order the provisional registration of the organization for having complied with all legal requirements and not hope that the registration of the political party occurs after the next elections”, expressed Paz de la Barra.
Likewise, he pointed out that during the hearing, which will be scheduled next week, he will appeal to the right to political participation, backed by article 96 of the Organic Law of Elections, which prescribes the figure of provisional registration “when a political organization in registration route complied with the publication of the synthesis and are pending to resolve the strikeouts declared by the ROP”.
