The Rio de Janeiro City Council enacted Law 8,518/2024 this Friday (26), which prohibits toll collection on election days in the municipality, from 8 am to 6 pm. If the prohibition is not complied with, the citizen has the right to be reimbursed by the concessionaires, the text assures.
The law also imposes fines that concessionaires will have to pay to the municipality, which vary from R$50,000 to R$200,000, considering repeated violations.
The text takes advantage of and deals with normal days, when the fee is charged, by determining that the maximum time for service at toll booths must be 15 minutes.
The 2024 municipal elections will be held on October 6 and 27, with voting open from 8 am to 5 pm, Brasília time.
