MADRID, Spain.- This January 8 marks the eleventh anniversary of the death of Gregorio Hernández Ríos (1936-2012), one of the most renowned Cuban rumberos.
Known in the artistic world as “El Goyo”, Gregorio Hernández, in addition to being an excellent dancer, was a singer and percussionist.
Among his great contributions to the enrichment of the Afro-Cuban cultural heritage was having founded the National Folkloric Group; where he was also a teacher for twenty-five years.
Teaching was one of his great vocations; for which she also taught classes at the Higher Institute of Art, at the University of Havana and in various countries such as the United States, Canada, Belgium and France.
During his career as a folk dancer and adviser he toured extensively. Just as he shared the stage with Tata GüinesOrlando Valle “Maracas”, Afro Cuban All Star, Yoruba Andabo and Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, among others.
