President Daniel Noboa ordered the border closure from February 8 to 10, 2025 to guarantee security during the general elections.
International news
Ecuador has announced the closure of its land borders with Colombia and Peru from Saturday 8 to Monday, February 10, 2025, as part of a security operation for the general elections that will take place on Sunday, February 9.
This decision was taken by President Daniel Noboa before the threat of “destabilization attempts by armed groups,” official sources reported.
In addition to the border closure, Noboa has arranged the immediate militarization of the ports and the reinforcement of the military presence at the northern and southern borders of the country.
These measures seek to prevent any incident that may affect the normal development of the electoral process and guarantee the safety of citizens.
The Ecuadorian government calls on the population and international travelers to take these restrictions into account, since traffic and commercial activities in the bordering areas will be affected during these days.
