Economy Minister Paulo Guedes contracted covid-19, the ministry’s press office said earlier this afternoon. According to the ministry, he took the three doses of the vaccine and has mild symptoms.
Guedes went into isolation and canceled all face-to-face appointments this week. However, he kept the agenda of virtual meetings, spending much of the day in videoconferencing with secretaries, in internal dispatches.
At the end of the afternoon, Guedes will have a virtual meeting with the president of the Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region, federal judge Ricardo Teixeira do Valle Pereira.
Last week, Guedes was in Washington, capital of the United States, for the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. He also participated in meetings of the G20, a group of the 20 largest economies on the planet. The press office of the Ministry of Economy did not say whether the minister contracted the disease during the trip.
Aged 72 and a member of a risk group for covid-19, the Minister of Economy took the first dose of the vaccine in March last year and the third dose at the end of October last year.
