Dominican Republic climbed two positions in the Human development Index (HDI) 2022 in relation to 2020 and obtained a value of 0.767, ranking 80th in the world ranking, which includes 191 countries.

According to the latest HDI report from the Program of the nations United Nations for Development (UNDP)the country remains in the category of high human development, despite the challenges of COVID-19 in 2021.

However, when analyzing the inequality of human development, the country loses 19.4% due to inequality, which reduces the HDI to 0.618 in 2021.

When evaluating the HDI by gender, the 2021 female HDI value for Dominican Republic is 0.772 in contrast to 0.761 for men, resulting in an IDG value of 1.014, placing it in Group 1, that is, between countries with a high level of equality in HDI achievement between women and men. mens.

Furthermore, according to Gender Inequality Indexthe country is in position 106 of the 191 countries evaluated and obtains a score of 0.429.

The global report is entitled “Uncertain Times, Unstable Lives: Shaping Our Future in a Changing World” and was launched yesterday by UNDP. It warns of the existence of multiple interconnected layers of uncertainty that are causing unprecedented destabilization in lives. This is because the last two years have been devastating for billions of people around the world, with the pandemic of the COVID-19 followed by war in Ukraine and its interrelation with enormous social and economic transformations, threatening changes at the planetary level, and an extraordinary advance in polarization. For the first time in the 32 years that UNDP has been producing it, the HDI has worsened globally for two consecutive years, falling back to 2016 levels.
