The Municipality of Montevideo currently has 15 points distributed throughout the department for the collection and subsequent recycling of domestic oil. The importance of having a recycling system for cooking oil that is discarded in homes lies in the fact that this product, once recycled, is transformed into biodiesel.
Biodiesel is a renewable energy that, compared to diesel derived from petroleum, reduces greenhouse gas emissions by more than 85%, which favors the care of the environment.
Each liter of oil poured into household drains or onto the ground can contaminate up to a thousand liters of water, in addition to clogging the sanitation system.
In this sense, the system in turn preserves a resource of vital importance such as water and, consequently, the quality of watercourses and beaches.
