The average price of an air ticket on domestic flights fell by 14.7% in September this year, compared to the same period last year, being sold for R$666.01. According to the Ministry of Ports and Airports, the reduction in the tariff was influenced by the 11.4% reduction in the average value of a liter of aviation kerosene.
According to data provided by the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), 46.4% of tickets sold in September this year had a price below R$500. In the same period last year, the indicator was 37.4%.
Tickets sold for less than R$300 accounted for 20.3% this year and fares above R$1,500 represented 6.8% of the total.
According to the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, in addition to the reduction in the price of aviation kerosene, the increase in the number of flights and the increase in seats offered justify the drop in fares. “The result is also the result of the universal air transport plan that we launched together with Brazilian companies. We are working to make fares even more affordable. We are on the right track,” he said.
All Brazilian regions saw a reduction in the average air fare. The North Region recorded the highest percentage of drop in the indicator, with 22%, followed by the Central-West (18.2%), Southeast (16.7%), Northeast (9.4%) and South (8.6% ). The result takes into account the average price charged at the origin of the flight.
There was a real reduction in ticket prices in 23 states and the Federal District. With an average of R$589.33, Mato Grosso do Sul was the location with the lowest price charged in September, followed by Rio de Janeiro (R$590.74) and Minas Gerais (R$597.52).
