Midfielder Gustavo Puerta, from Hull City, is the main surprise in the Colombian squad, in which James Rodríguez and Luis Díaz stand out, for the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against the Uruguayan teams in Montevideo and Ecuador in Barranquilla.

Puerta, 21 years old and whose record belongs to Bayer Leverkusen, will have the opportunity to debut in the Colombian team, to which he was called up for the second time after having participated in a microcycle in October 2022.

His call and that of Sebastián Gómez, Coritiba midfielder, comes in the absence of the injured Jefferson Lerma, a regular starter and Crystal Palace player.

The other new addition to the squad is the winger Carlos Andrés Gómez, from Rennes, who will replace another injured player: Luis Sinisterra, from Bournemouth.

Likewise, Crystal Palace full-back Daniel Muñoz, who missed the previous doubleheader due to an injury, will reappear in the starting lineup.

The rest of the squad is made up of the base that lost 1-0 to Bolivia and beat Chile 4-0, which includes goalkeeper Camilo Vargas, center back Davinson Sánchez, midfielder Richard Ríos and forward Jhon Córdoba.
