A one year and three month old boy fights for his life after suffering from severe malnutrition. He arrived from the municipality of Entre Ríos (Cochabamba) to the town of San Carlos, Ichilo de Santa Cruz province, but due to the seriousness of his health he was referred to the Mario Ortiz Suárez children’s hospital in the capital of Santa Cruz.
It was the mother who took the child to the San Carlos hospital last Monday. Once there, she was explained the severity of your child’s condition and that it should be transferred to the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra; however, hethe woman objected.
It was then that hethey called the San Caros Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents to help convince the mother, but in the meantime it became known that it was the father who was opposed. “The man called her and warned her not to let the child be taken to Santa Cruz, that this illness had to be treated by ‘healers’ and not by doctors,” commented one of the officials from the Ombudsman’s Office.
Despite his father’s threats, the woman was convinced of the seriousness of her son’s health and it was so that now the little one is in the Mario Ortiz Suárez hospital, in the capital of Santa Cruz.
Egberto Ledezma, legal adviser to the San Carlos Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents, reported that the child suffers from a severe malnutrition.
“A child cannot be allowed to go through this situation, is very critical. Fortunately, has already been treated and has a whole multidisciplinary team observing and attending to its evolution,” explained Ledezma. The minor, in addition to the obvious malnutrition, has skin lesions.
The attorney revealed that the parents are likely to be sued for neglect. It is known that this couple has other children and that the malnourished child did not have identity documents.
In accordance with subsection 3, of article 33 of the Child Code, Adolescent Girl, negligence is one of the causes for the suspension of the authority of one or both parents, and it can be temporary or definitive.
