Do you want a better job? Know five skills in which you should train

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (), points out that the average salary of Peruvians is S/ 1,552.8, and that this remuneration varies considerably according to their level of preparation. In this sense, in order to obtain better job opportunities, people must know how to identify the needs that the current market requires and enhance those skills for their professional profile.

Gisela Camargo, director of Continuing Education at the Certus institute, explains that, despite the economic crisis, the Central Reserve Bank reported that formal employment in Peru grew by 6.5% only in January of this year and is expected to continue to increase during the next few months.

“In other words, there will be more job opportunities for those who are better prepared, since today’s companies require professionals with new skills, as well as specific soft and technical skills”Camargo explained.

In this regard, the specialist recommends five key skills that those who are looking for a job or who want to access a better position should be trained in to improve their income:

Soft skills:

● Leadership: This is a priority skill for all organizations, not only in the highest positions, but also in middle management. Leadership is essential to lead change and spearhead strategies, motivating teams and fostering belonging.

● Collaborative work: Most companies are migrating to hybrid work and many others maintain remote work. Therefore, they require collaborators capable of getting involved in the team, making synergies and collaborating with others to achieve common goals.

● Creativity and critical thinking: In a changing scenario, those who propose intelligent and creative solutions have better opportunities for professional growth, because today, more than ever, companies need critical, strategic and innovative collaborators to lead teams.

Technical skills:

● Digital tools: Today, a minimum requirement is that workers master digital tools, since the market has been transformed and companies relate to their stakeholders over the Internet. In that sense, they look for people who handle Cloud Computing, social networks, office automation, WordPress, web programming, graphic design, etc., at least at an intermediate level.

● E-Commerce: All companies sell products or services, and now they do so mainly over the Internet. Therefore, they value workers who understand the e-commerce ecosystem much more, even more so those with skills in digital sales, digital marketing, imports, etc.

Finally, Camargo assures that complementing soft skills with technical skills is an excellent strategy to enhance our professional profile. “Undoubtedly, these types of workers will have more opportunities to access better jobs, inside or outside their organizations.”
