Distribution of defective condoms in the Coquimbo region prompted the start of an investigation by health authorities

The delivery of a series of defective condoms in different prevention activities during the summer in La Serena and Coquimbo alerted the authorities after a complaint indicated that many of these condoms were defective. Given this, the Institute of Public Health announced measures and the start of an investigation.

According to information from Biobío, the first to alert about this situation was Fundación Chile Positivo, announcing that about 440 defective condoms were delivered to different people in the main districts of the Coquimbo region.

The condom in question is the Male Latex Condom from the manufacturer Suzhou Colour-Way New Material, which is in charge of the company Cegamed Chile SA The faults presented have to do with lack of lubrication and thinness of the latex, which causes its easy breaking off.

The Seremi de Salud immediately suspended the distribution of these condoms and contacted the different organizations that received these condoms, in order to exchange them for ones of certified quality. In turn, they will carry out an inspection by the different pharmacies to avoid the delivery of these.
