The Federal Protection Service (SPF), a decentralized body of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), in four years displaced the company Cuerpos de Seguridad Auxiliares del Estado de México (Cusaem) in the surveillance and custody of federal agencies. , obtained income of 9 thousand 676 million 570 thousand pesos and increased its staff 168 percent.

During the six-year terms of Felipe Calderón and Enrique Peña Nieto, most of the federal institutions trusted the Cusaem for their protection.

In this government, SPF service contracts with federal agencies jumped from 21, in December 2018, to 56 in October 2022, plus two other agreements with individuals, according to information obtained through a transparency request made by the day.

SPF is in charge of providing services for the protection, custody, surveillance and security of people, goods and facilities to the dependencies and entities of the federal public administration, as well as to the bodies of the Legislative and Judicial branches, as well as constitutionally autonomous bodies of the Federation, and other public institutions that so requestaccording to official documents of the corporation.

In December 2022, the SPF turned 14, but its further development began in the current six-year term.

Among the headlines of the organization was former PAN leader Manuel Espino, who left the corporation after unsuccessfully seeking Morena’s candidacy for governor of Durango.

The current director is Luis Wertman Zaslav.

In January 2019, the SPF served 24 institutions and in December of that year there were already 32. By January 2020, according to official letter SPF/DGSS/5544/2022, the institutions that had paid the Cusaems and agreed with the SPF it was already 35.

At the end of that year there were 38. Its staff increased in 2021, since hundreds of elements of the extinct Federal Police joined the corporation, according to SSPC records. However, the SPF responded on that point that from the background search, no information was located.

In January 2021, the SPF already had 40 contracts, and at the end of the year there were already 47 active service agreements.

In 2022, the increase in SPF personnel continued in federal institutions, including the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, the Mexican Institute of Social Security and the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers , among others, until reaching 56.

The SPF reported that until October last year it also provided protection services to two individuals or companies.

This security body has a cost table for each element and thus reached a total income from December 2018 to October 2022 of 9 thousand 676 million 570 pesos.

The corporation reported a total of 4,221 elements in December 2018, in contrast to 11,314 for October 2022, which meant a 168 percent growth in its agent workforce.
