Diniz, interim Brazil coach, refuses to talk about Ancelotti

Fernando Diniz, Fluminense coach and presented this Wednesday as the new interim coach of Brazil, refused to give any information about the possible arrival of the Italian at Canarinha Carlo Ancelotti in the middle of 2024.

“I am not going to go into the Ancelotti matter. That is a matter for the president (of the Brazilian Football Confederation, CBF). I’m going to talk about my style of play”, Diniz stated at the press conference he gave when he was introduced as the new coach of the five-time world champion team.

Despite the fact that the press conference at the CBF headquarters in Rio de Janeiro It was to present the new interim coach, the questions about Ancelotti were repeated, as well as Diniz’s refusals to answer them.

The doubts stem from the fact that, in an interview he gave to television on Friday, the President of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, hinted that the Italian will coach Brazil during the America’s Cup 2024, scheduled for the middle of next year and when his contract with Real Madrid will have concluded.

Diniz acknowledged that his interim contract is for one year and that it also includes the Copa América, and said that he has also heard the versions that Ancelotti will assume command of the Canarinha in 2024 but cannot confirm them.

“About Ancelotti I know of the plans that exist, but I don’t know how they are. They are going to have to find another way to confirm this information,” he said.

The Fluminense coach He said that he does not know Ancelotti personally and that, in his conversations with the CBF leaders, he was guaranteed that he would have total freedom and autonomy to impose his style of play without having to listen to anyone.

“I spoke with the president of the CBF and received the guarantee that I will have complete freedom to do my job. Talk with others (coaches), I talk. I will have a group within the CBF and of people that I will bring with me with whom I will talk,” he stressed.

Diniz, who will continue as Fluminense’s coach during his time as the team’s interim, will assume the position instead of Ramón Menezes, coach of the Sub-20 and that he had been exercising the function after Tite’s resignation.

Diniz will make his debut as Canarinha coach next September, when Brazil will face Bolivia and Peru in the South American qualifiers for the World Cup 2026.

Canarinha has been without a coach since December last year when Adenor Leonardo Bacchi, better known as ‘Tite’, he said goodbye as coach after the elimination in the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Qatar 2022 against Croatia.

Ramón Menezes, who will now be focused exclusively on the U-20, commanded the team as interim in three games, in which he only managed a victory against Guineasince in the other matches Brazil ended up defeated by Morocco and Senegal.
