Dina Boluarte grants safe -conduct for Nadine Heredia to travel to Brazil for diplomatic asylum

In the midst of the political and judicial tension that surrounds Nadine Heredia’s case, The President Dina Boluarte He authorized the issuance of a safe -conduct that would allow the former first lady to leave the country to Brazil, where she will receive diplomatic asylum accompanied by her children after being found guilty of having received illicit contributions from Venezuela and Odebrecht in the presidential campaigns of 2006 and 2011 from her husband, Ollanta Humala.

“In that sense, in compliance with articles V and XII, the Peruvian Government has provided such guarantees for the transfer of both people and has granted the corresponding salvoconducts,” reads an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It is important to remember that around noon on Tuesday, April 15, the judgment was read in the first instance against Ollanta Humala and Nadine Heredia, who were found guilty of the crime of money laundering. The third collegiate court of the National Superior Court of the Judiciary imposed a sentence of 15 years in prison on the presidential ex -partner, ordering the penalty to be executed immediately.

Meanwhile, former President Ollanta Humala was transferred to the Barbadillo prison under a strong police protection. The delay of more than nine hours in its transfer was due to the fact that it had to previously submit to a legal medical examination at the Carlos Zavala building facilities of the Judiciary.

Who are the other convicted in the case of the former presidential couple?

Criminal responsibility in this case did not only fell on the presidential ex -partner, Ollanta Humala and Nadine Heredia. The court also sentenced Mario Torres Aliaga to eight years in effective prison. Likewise, Antonia Alarcón Cubas – Mother of Heredia -, Rocío Calderón Vinatea and Eladio Mego Guevara were sentenced to five years in jail, although with penalty suspended for four years, under strict conditions of conduct.

In contrast, former congressman Santiago Gastañadui, along with Carlos Arenas Gómez and Maribel Vela Arévalo, were acquitted of all charges, being exempt from criminal responsibility.

As a final part of the ruling, the Collegiate imposed a fine equivalent to 100 Tax Tax Units (ITU) to the Peruvian Nationalist Party, ordering its final dissolution. The same fate ran all Graph, also condemned to its legal extinction.
