The Public Ministry opened a preliminary investigation against Minister Betssy Chávez for alleged influence peddling.

“At the constitutional level there are two basic levels: the principle of good government and that of transparency. Especially if we are in a context where there is a Prosecutor’s Office that is accusing the president for taking over, for having family arms, shadow cabinets (…) If there is a complaint of this nature, the first thing that would be expected of a minister is to respond forcefully, transparently, and not attack,” he said in this regard.
“From my point of view, we have to focus on the government’s reaction to the inspection and to the personnel they hire, because in the end they are the ones who solve the country’s problems,” he continued.

In addition, the constitutionalist commented on the minister’s response after they opened the preliminary investigation against him. In it, he attacked the press and the Public Ministry.
“It is a simple answer, not at the level of a Minister of State, let’s say like the way; but deep down, it responds to something very important: not respecting the work of the press, ”she said.
