Díaz-Canel will participate in the UN debate on universal vaccination

The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, will participate in the High-Level Thematic Debate on universal vaccination that will take place tomorrow, Friday, at the United Nations General Assembly, the Foreign Ministry reported today.

Cuba, which developed three vaccines and two vaccine candidates against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes Covid-19, is at the forefront of the world in the process of immunizing the population.

Five million 867 thousand 673 people have a booster dose against the pandemic, the Ministry of Public Health reported in its most recent part.

According to the agency, of that figure, 278,200 citizens received the additional vaccine as part of clinical studies, and 5,589,473 received the booster vaccine that is being applied to the population of selected territories and risk groups.

They have the complete vaccination schedule (with the Cuban immunogens Soberana 02, Soberana Plus and Abdala), nine million 871 thousand 746 people, which represents 89.1 percent of the population.

Until last Monday, 10 million 601 thousand 59 people had received at least one dose, of which nine million 368 thousand 759 received a second dose, and a third, nine million 46 thousand 835.

In sum, 34 million 884 thousand 614 doses of the nationally developed vaccines were administered in the Caribbean country.

Cuba keeps the pandemic under control and with falling rates of contagion, and achieves a low lethality at the international level.
