Uvalde. The National Rifle Association (NRA), a powerful lobbying group that has been instrumental in thwarting efforts to tighten US gun laws, said the shooting attack at a school for Uvalde, Texas, in which 19 children and two teachers were murdered, was the work of a lonely and deranged criminal.

While former President Donald Trump stated that tomorrow will make an important speech the country at the NRA’s annual convention in Texas. The tycoon posted yesterday on his social network that America needs real solutions and real leadership right now, not politics and partisanship.

Houston Democratic Mayor Sylvester Turner said some people want him to cancel the NRA meeting, but said he can’t break the contract. The bigger question, he stated, is why politicians are still planning to speak there after the Uvalde shooting.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Sen. Ted Cruz are among the Republicans scheduled to speak at a leadership forum sponsored by the NRA’s lobbying arm.

The problem is that elected officials at the highest level in our state go and speak and endorse those policies, and that’s wrongTurner said. You can’t pray and send condolences one day and then go defend the guns the next. That is wrong.

As Abbott was giving a lecture on the Uvalde massacre yesterday, Beto O’Rourke, a Democratic leader from Texas, a former contender for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination and Abbott’s challenger in the November statewide election, interrupted him to point out that the tragedy it was predictable and accused the Republican of having done nothing. O’Rourke received a barrage of insults and the mayor of Uvalde, present in the room, accused him of going too far of the limits.

On the other hand, the daily dallasnews reported that a North Texas high school student was arrested after police found a handgun and replica AR-15 rifle in his vehicle. The police received the report in the morning about an armed man on the campus of the school located in the city of Richardson.

In Sacramento, California, a gun and ammunition were found on an elementary school student, he said. Los Angeles Times.
