Deputies approved VAT exemption for baked goods and noodles

The Chamber of Deputies approved this Wednesday the bill that exonerates VAT on bread, pasta and noodles, whose text had the approval of the Senate. Now the Legislative Power will communicate the result of the vote to the Presidency of the Republic, for its promulgation.

This is the exemption from the minimum VAT (10%) for a period of 30 days, and is for “the alienation of common white bread, campaign cookies, pasta and noodles”, that are currently taxed at the same minimum rate.

Before the Chamber of Senators dealt with the project, in the explanatory statement, the government had indicated that “the world was already experiencing a situation of high inflation due to the recovery of the international economy in a context of low interest rates.”

And he pointed out that, in this way, the prices of raw materials “were rising significantly”. “This situation was exacerbated as of February 24 of the current year when the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out. In particular, the prices of products such as wheat showed a very significant rise, since both States are important suppliers of said well, representing 30% (thirty percent) of world production,” says the text.
