The Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, urged this Friday the union of the countries that make up the Caribbean community (Caricom), in order to face the onslaught of the West.
“The call is for the unity of our peoples above all else, the union of our peoples against hegemonic ambitions to seize our resources,” said Rodríguez from the National Pantheon where a floral offering was held in the framework of the 50th anniversary of the CARICOM.
Rodríguez stated that this should be the message against those who intend to attack the region and “cause the political, economic and social instability of our peoples.”
In her speech, the vice president highlighted the conferences that have been held in recent days in Caracas, such as the Meeting of Celac Science and Technology Ministers, where members of Caricom also participated.
“This space in the Caribbean houses one of the most important stories of humanity, as was the process of freedom from the conquerors,” he stressed.
Similarly, he stated that, with the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela – at the hands of Commander Hugo Chávez -, the region came together to create a mechanism that would promote the development of Caribbean countries, such as PetroCaribe.
“This mechanism has been seriously hit by the blockade against Venezuela (…) It is not only an aggression against the country, but against all the countries that are part of Petrocaribe,” he added.
Caricom raises its voice against sanctions
The Haitian ambassador accredited to the country, Lesly David, was present at the event, who indicated that, as CARICOM member countries, their voices are raised against the sanctions imposed by the United States (USA) against Venezuela.
“There are countries that do not want to see stability in the Caribbean nations, for this reason, in Caricom’s foreign policy, Venezuela has always been supported and sanctions have been said no, because if Venezuela is in trouble, we are in trouble,” he stressed.
Similarly, he highlighted the friendship between Venezuela and the Caribbean countries, strengthened with the creation of PetroCaribe.
“Petrocaribe has been an essential, important driver for all the Caribbean countries,” he concluded.
